Pruning & Trimming

Improper pruning — shearing spring-blooming shrubs in early spring, or topping trees — damages plants and destroys their natural form. Our pruning crews are trained in species-specific timing and technique, removing only what should be removed when it should be removed.

Service visits are scheduled around each species' bloom cycle and growth habit. Lilacs and forsythia are pruned after bloom; ornamental grasses are cut back in late winter before new growth emerges; hollies and boxwoods are trimmed in early summer before hardening off. The result is healthier plants that maintain attractive natural forms rather than the sheared meatball look.
